‘The last scene’s pretty intense,’ Lea Michele tells MTV News about season-three ‘cliffhanger.’

“Glee” will wrap up its third season on Tuesday night in a finale marking a major milestone for the New Directions: graduation. That means fans will get to see show favorites, including Rachel (Lea Michele), Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Finn (Cory Monteith), all decked out in caps and gowns.

With everyone slated to come back for season four, their fates will mostly be decided by the end of the finale, but some things will be left up to chance. At least that’s what Michele told us at an event announcing Fox’s fall lineup, where she weighed in on the highly anticipated episode.

“The last scene’s pretty intense,” she teased. “The last scene’s a very big cliffhanger.”

Before that final scene, however, fans will be treated to a lot of other lasts, including a final sing-along in Will Schuester’s famous choir room. “[It's] definitely [bittersweet],” Colfer added. “It was definitely bitter that these are the last times we’re going to be performing as a group in the choir room, like the last choir room scene, but we’re also really excited for where the show’s going.”

When asked to pick their favorite finale moments, the cast seemed to focus on the scenes that say goodbye while looking to a bright future next season.

“Well, what we’re excited, I guess, for people to see is where these characters end up and to finally see them in caps and gowns,” Michele said. “We worked really hard. It’s like we worked very hard to graduate.”

“And their final numbers performing as a group,” Colfer said, with Michele adding, “That’s really exciting.”

With the characters going in so many new directions next season, the show will also welcome a few new faces, including extended cameos for Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson.

While little has been confirmed for what will be in store for the cast, it’s expected that Rachel, Finn and Kurt will be moving to the Big Apple, Quinn will head to Yale and Puck will head to California to work on his pool-cleaning business. As for the fates of the others, fans may have to wait until the fall to find out.

The award show will air on July 22 8pm ET on FOX.

Earlier this week, FOX revealed that Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson will join “Glee” for guest arcs in Season 4, and two of the show’s continuing stars — Chris Colfer and Lea Michele – cannot wait.

“I’m so excited,” Chris said, responding to the SJP news, while speaking with Access Hollywood at the FOX Upfronts earlier in the week. “I’m such a huge fan. I’m really, really excited and I think what they [have] planned for the two characters is going to be really, really great and the fans are gonna be very, very happy.”

Lea Michele, whose character, Rachel Berry, will graduate on next week’s “Glee” alongside Chris’ Kurt Hummel, hinted that Kate’s six-episode arc will relate to her character’s journey beyond McKinley High.

“I’m so excited and when I spoke to Ryan [Murphy, ‘Glee’s’ co-creator] about it [earlier this week], he was telling me about our storyline, I just about died. We’re coming into our fourth season and to be this excited about our storylines and about the people that we’re getting to work with, I think, is just really awesome and I think she’s incredible. She’s one of the best comedic actresses out there right now and so I can’t wait to work with her and what he has in store for us is so cool.”

“Glee” concludes its third season on Tuesday, May 22 at 9 PM ET/PT, and Lea said graduation was the right move for many of the characters.

“It definitely felt like the proper next step,” Lea said, before hinting at Rachel Berry’s future. “We’ve been working on this show now since 2008, so to get to take these characters to new locations and to be exploring some new material — a little bit more mature and older stuff? As an actor, to get to take a character on a TV show from one location and now welcome her to something new is very rare to see on TV, I feel.”

“Ditto,” Chris chimed in.

This fall, “Glee” will move nights, airing Thursdays at 9 PM, and Lea said it will mean she won’t be able to watch one of the shows she enjoys in real time.

“I’m just going to have to set my DVR for ‘Grey’s [Anatomy],’” she noted.

Fox unveiled its official 2012-13 schedule this morning and the big news is the relocation of Ryan Murphy’s musical dramedy this fall to Thursdays at 9/8c following The X Factor results show (and American Idol at midseason). That timeslot’s former occupant, Kiefer Sutherland’s Touch, will shift to Fridays where it will lead into the final season of Fringe.
